Google Daydream View review

Android VR becomes a reality, and it's super cheap

Very inexpensive VR headset ; Comes with a remote control ; Fabric design and flashy colors

Content is just getting started ; Light bleeding is a problem ; Phone runs hot, slows down

It's easy to get sucked into virtual reality with Google Daydream View. It's poised to work with more Android phones than any other VR platform, and it's very inexpensive. Of course, it needs more engaging content before it's worth purchasing.

Google Daydream View review: A Pixel-perfect VR experience?

Google has a mobile virtual reality platform, Daydream, which now has a headset to go with it. It's called Daydream View.

Affordable and easy-to-use access point into VR (if you have the right phone), comfortable fit beyond any competitor, decent array of day one titles (again, affordable if not free)

Only Google Pixel phones compatible for time being, can slip down due to lack of overhead strap, needs more titles to truly thrive

One point to make is that Daydream View isn't going to be the only Daydream-compatible headset. Other manufacturers may release their own versions based on Google's reference design in the coming months. They'll be similar to Daydream View in that...

Google Pros and cons: Our quick verdict on Google's Daydream View

The Daydream View is a solid first attempt at a mobile VR headset. It's comfortable and VR experiences look great. The only problem is there aren't many apps available for it yet.

Inexpensive ; Comfortable ; Motion controller makes VR immersive ; High-quality VR experiences

Not many apps yet ; More Daydream phones are coming, but aren’t here yet

Google Daydream View review

A sexier, streamlined alternative to Cardboard with plenty of potential

Clever controller opens up more VR possibilities ; Should eventually support loads of phones ; The price is right

Limited app and phone support at launch ; Headset lets in quite a bit of light

Even with limited app and phone support at launch, Google’s second stab at VR has serious potential

Google Daydream View

Google Daydream View – and the Daydream platform it's built upon – is the natural successor to Google Cardboard.

A comfortable, easy-to-use headset – it's the next step in mobile VR.

Google Daydream View review

The Daydream View is the most comfortable choice for jumping into high-quality virtual reality content.

Google Daydream View review

Cardboard is cheap. Gear VR only works with Samsung phones. The pricy Oculus Rift ( $599.99 at Amazon.com ) and HTC Vive ( $799.00 at Amazon.com ) require an expensive gaming PC and loads of setup, and the PlayStation VR ( $399.99 at Dell Home ) needs...

Affordable, portable and easy to set up. The bundled motion controller is convenient and easy to use. Exclusive YouTube, Google Street View and Google Photos feel like potential killer apps.

It only works with Google Pixel and Moto Z for now (more on the way). The headset is front-heavy and frequently needs adjusting. There's limited app selection at launch and you can't walk around or grab things in VR.

The Daydream View is the simplest, most affordable way to turn a phone into an immersive VR headset.

Google Daydream View

Google's Daydream View VR headset is a comfortable gateway to virtual worlds—there just aren't many to visit yet.

More comfortable than other mobile VR headsets. Included remote control is easy to use. Affordable.

Very little hardware and software support so far.

Daydream is the best mobile-phone VR platform so far. But so far, it's a nearly empty platform. It's hard to enjoy a party when nobody else is dancing. And no mobile VR platform holds a candle to PC-based systems like the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive, or...

Google Daydream View review: Google’s Pixel-perfect Gear VR rival?

Top marks for looks, but a lack of apps means the Daydream View is all style and no substance

Soft, comfy design

Not particularly secure on your face ; Right now there's a severe lack of 'must-have' apps

In its defence, though, the Daydream VR platform is in its infancy right now, and in a couple of months its app support will be vastly superior to what's on offer right now, so watch this space: in 2017, Daydream VR could well become the mobile headset...

Google Daydream View Review

Our Google Daydream View VR headset Review opens the door to a new era in Google's mobile VR game, starting with Pixel. The first phones that work with Daydream are the Google Pixel and the Google Pixel XL, both of which are available at the same...

The Google Daydream View headset and controller are two parts of a future I’m glad to be a part of. With it, I’m able to see new environments and play games that defy traditional notions of what computers are able to be for their users. I’m also able...
