The Sony VGF-WA1 is a stylish tabletop radio that can stream digital music from your PC, but a few key feature upgrades would have made us like it even more.

Reliable wireless audio streaming; stylish design; built-in lithium battery with 4 hours of battery life; solid connectivity, including a digital-audio output and an auxiliary minijack input for external sources.

Limited (128MB) internal memory; no method of adding additional memory; AAC downloads are very slow; no Mac support; no AM/FM tuner; limited file format support; can't handle subscription-based digital music services.

The Sony VAIO VGF-WA1 is a stylish tabletop radio that can stream digital music from your PC, but a few key feature upgrades would have made us like it even more.

The VAIO VGF-WA1 Digital Music Streamer plays tunes wirelessly from your computer.

Streams music from PC. Comes with wireless adapter. Sounds good. Nice design. Internet radio access. Internal flash memory storage.

Slow file transfer to internal memory. Remote low on options. Web radio doesn't give artist info.

Sony Vaio VGF-WA1

 

While Web radio is kind of neat, this Vaio is pricey and if you plan to only play MP3s, we'd suggest just getting a set of speakers for your MP3 player.

Web radio anywhere in your house ; Impressive wireless performance ; Stereo, headphone and optical outputs ; Looks good

Most free Live365 Web radio stations have gone AWOL ; MP3 streaming requires your PC to be on ; Interface not so friendly ; Pricey

While it's an interesting concept, and not without its merits, we're not entirely sure who's going to fork out nearly AU$500 for the Vaio VGF-WA1. Those looking to play MP3s in the kitchen or the garden are probably better served by the numerous...

Much better with firmware update

 

I can't seem to change my previous review of 2 eggs so I'm adding this new review at a 5. I would actually rate this product a 4 now. The firmware update makes this product something that works for me.

This product works much better with the updated firmware. Hopefully the firmware update will make it to the US Sony site. Many features are added and a web app to edit the 20 presets. I'm able to tune in any mp3 stream and it sounds good.

Price. Accompanying software is clunky. I can't get it to work with mms:// wmv streams.
